At Epictions, we’re committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. Which is why it’s important we let you know why we do what we do. We’re sure when you’re done with this page, you will have understood why it’s great for you to be indexed and listed by us.

What is Epictions?

We’re a search engine (much like Google) but only for content (articles, images, videos, podcasts, other audio content types, so and so forth). We serve this content from all over the web for more than 100,000 users who log into one of our tools built on top of the search engine. We use something called Epicbot to do this. Try a sample search to see what we mean.

What’s Epicbot?

Epicbot is our web crawler (Google calls theirs a spider sometimes) that visits your websites and adds any content it finds to our index. We retain permalinks, author info, domain info, and aggregate social engagement (shares, likes, comments) for each one of your URLs on a periodic basis.

We do not claim ownership over any content shown on the site (also called a webapp). Your content is yours. We index it solely for the purpose of making it more accessible to others on the internet looking for popular content (and eventually a product or service). In fact, a lot of our customers submit their sites for crawling so we can show them their latest social stats on all of their content. Sweet, huh?

How Epicbot accesses content on your site

The process begins with a list of web page URLs generated from previous crawl processes. We also monitor over a dozen social networks for content that is popular.  This is further augmented with Sitemap or feed data provided by webmasters. In most cases, our bot accesses your web page only for a few seconds. The only exception to this is when network delays prevent the bot from collecting content data and leaving your site.

Why Epicbot’s crawls are good for you

You are the owner of a site that’s got some content on it. It is likely your site’s got quality content (kudos to you) and is popular or you have quality content for a niche and our customers have requested we add that content to our index.

In any case, we do a good job of showing content based on popularity and keyword relevance. In fact, owners of content-heavy sites regularly ask us to include their Sitemap and feed in our index so they surface for users’ searches. Pretty much what Google does – except Google indexes everything and makes it so much more difficult for content researchers and marketers to get to the goodies.

We make it easy. Plus we serve over 100,000 searches a month. That’s a lot of searches given how we don’t show riff-raff. Meaning, you get a free promotion channel without spending a dime. Just let our bot say hi to your website every once in a while and see those crowds roll in.

How to opt out

We really hope you don’t especially when the benefits outweigh any concerns you may have with our crawling.

However, if you insist, we will understand. Drop us a block request at support@epictions.com and we will get in touch with you to understand your reasons better and block your site(s) from our crawls.

Alternatively, if you see unusually high traffic from us, do get in touch with us and we’ll take care of it pronto.
